Take 8 Ivy

We all remember the days before PowerHouse Books rereleased the famed Take Ivy–those same days when diehard prepsters were paying upwards of $1,000 just to get a copy in their hands. The book was iconic and the closest most of us ever got were the images that The Trad had scanned and put on his blog. Little did Mr. Tinseth know, but that post would go on to incite an obsession over this legendary book that would lead to the English version selling in nearly every J. Crew across the country. And while the re-release was very exciting and was an excellent read, most of us couldn’t help but wonder if there was a chance that we could see a second. We’ll here it is…

I did a bit of investigative work after reading W. David Marx’s less than positive review of the book after he had a chance to scan over it. He seemed a bit disappointed by the lack of pure style as the sequel, named Take 8 Ivy, was much more focused on architecture and general campus scenery. As you can tell from these photos I was able to dig up from few Japanese blogs, this isn’t quite the menswear grail that the first one was, but it shouldn’t be looked over either. There are some great images of 60′s college life and the photography really does justice to the beauty of Ivy League campuses. So take a look and and soak up the inspiration…

I really wish there were hi-res pics or a reprint. A good bit of Ivy charm is found within its architecture.

FYI I did not write the post on Ivy Style nor have I seen the book.

This is great…however some of the photos feels like it was lifted straight out of the first Take Ivy book though I could be wrong because it’s been a while since I’ve read “Take Ivy”. Do you mind posting the link to the Japanese blogs? I think they could be fun to read. Thanks.

  1. [...] The hot story on the blogwire this morning is the release of Shiro Itoh’s Take 8 Ivy, the sequel of the insanely popular Take Ivy. It appears, like the US re-release of the first book last year, that getting your hands on a copy won’t be a walk in the park. (For these purposes, a brisk jaunt across the quad.) Vancouver-based shop Inventory had a bunch for sale, but they’ve sold through, thanks to sites like Hypebeast and Por Homme announcing the release and waiving prep-heads in their direction. However, Men of Habit cracked the book to provide a nice little preview, here. [...]
