Norman Hilton F/W ’11 Inspiration

While the summer heat beats down on us, many of the smaller menswear labels are putting the finishing touches on there Fall/Winter ’11 collections. We all may assume that fashion brands live at least 2 seasons ahead, but for the smaller guys design comes much closer to the season at hand. For the newly relaunched Norman Hilton, much of design means looking back at the brand’s rich history. Much of what has been popular with the rise of American heritage brands has been the thoughtful reinterpretation of the old into something modern and elegant.

For the upcoming fall, the design and lookbook will be using the old New Yorker advertisements from the 60′s for their inspiration. These advertisements were the cream of the crop in their day, and continue to be a great source for understanding classic American menswear. While the advertisements look fairly different from what we see in newspapers and magazines today, the combination of text and imagery makes you wonder why ads have changed so much. They show off the casual masculinity that Norman Hilton perfected in its heyday, along with other greats like Southwick and Hickey Freeman. Stay tuned for the Norman Hilton Fall/Winter ’11 lookbook that will draw upon these advertisements of old…
