Men of Habit: Shimon Ovadia

Shimon Ovadia is one half of the twin team behind the up-and-coming menswear brand Ovadia & Sons. Ariel is one of the best-dressed guys we know–always choosing to dress up rather than down. We sat down to speak with him about his personal style and life outside of work.

How would you describe your style?

It’s all about the mood at the time. Very casual for the most part but I also enjoy wearing a sport coat or a suit even if the occasion might not call for it. I’d say my style is American, British, and Italian all blended together.

What’s the one piece of your wardrobe you couldn’t do without?

A nice white oxford, then again, there are many things I couldn’t do without.

What’s the one style rule you always follow?

I don’t follow rules, I just do what feels right to me and what works for me. Be yourself and don’t wear things because they’re cool or ‘in’ at the time. Being confident and having your own personal style is important.

Who has influenced your style most in life?

There was no particular person. Films definitely played a big role. Living in New York and growing up in Brooklyn, the guys in Soho and the gents Uptown, things were a lot different in the early 90′s here.

Favorite place to shop?

There is this brand called Ovadia & Sons, they make some nice stuff. Other than that I occasionally still go to vintage stores and flea markets.

What cologne do you wear (if any)?

At the moment Krigler No. 55. Hermes D’Orange in the summertime. The other one is a secret.

Favorite place to eat?

I rather have a home cooked meal than go to the fanciest restaurant. I love going to my parents house for dinner, my mother is a great cook.

My drink is…

Lots of coffee, lots of water. When I’m out…Whiskey, neat.

If I weren’t a designer, I’d be a…

Movie producer.

When I’m not working, I’m….

Always working on the next thing. I try to stay fit, play chess, travel, read, listen to music, relax and spend time with friends and family.
